“The Ecstasy of Gold” (in italiano: L’Estasi Dell’Oro) è una composizione di Ennio Morricone, parte della sua colonna sonora per il film di Sergio Leone “Il buono, il brutto e il cattivo”. Nel film si sente mentre Tuco (Eli Wallach) sta freneticamente cercando in un cimitero la tomba che contiene $ 200.000 in monete d’oro. Cantata da Edda Dell’Orso, si erge come uno dei più noti temi di Morricone. La band heavy metal americana Metallica ha utilizzato “The Ecstasy of Gold” come musica introduttiva per i suoi concerti dal 1983; il brano è incluso negli album dal vivo “Metallica Through the Never”, “S & M” e “Live Shit: Binge & Purge”. Questa cover strumentale dei Metallica (con la voce minimale e la chitarra solista del cantante James Hetfield) appare sull’album tributo del 2007 “We All Love Ennio Morricone”. American heavy metal band Metallica has used “The Ecstasy of Gold” as the introductory music for its concerts since 1983; it is included on the live albums “Metallica Through the Never”, “S&M” and “Live Shit: Binge & Purge”. This instrumental metal cover by Metallica (with minimal vocals and lead guitar work by lead singer James Hetfield) appears on the 2007 Morricone tribute album “We All Love Ennio Morricone”. This metal version was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance and reached #21 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock charts in April of that year.
