Yo La Tengo – Friday I’m In Love (The Cure)

Il 28 agosto 2015, gli Yo La Tengo hanno pubblicato “Stuff Like That There”, tramite l’etichetta Matador Records. L’album segna non solo il ritorno del marchio YLT a rielaborazioni indie rock, ma anche una reunion con il membro originale Dave Schramm. Questa è la versione di “Friday I am in love” dei Cure. L’ interpretazione del branao da parte di YLT si concentra in gran parte su corde di chitarra delicate e una batteria stabile che non invade mai le note più leggere della cantante Georgia Hubley.

On August 28th 2015, Yo La Tengo released “Stuff Like That There”, via Matador Records. The album marks not only the return of YLT’s brand of indie rock re-workings, but also a reunion with original member Dave Schramm. This is the version of “Friday I’m in Love” by The Cure. YLT’s rendition of the classic track is focused largely on gentle guitar strums and a steady, spares drum that never encroaches on the lighter notes of singer Georgia Hubley.

“Sorrow” è un brano registrato per la prima volta dai McCoys nel 1965 e pubblicato come lato B nella loro cover di “Fever”. È diventato un grande successo nel Regno Unito in una versione dei Merseys, raggiungendo il numero 4 nella classifica del Regno Unito il 28 aprile 1966. Una frase della canzone – “Con i tuoi lunghi capelli biondi e i tuoi occhi di blu” – è usata nel brano dei Beatles “It’s All Too Much” che è stata inserito nel loro album del 1969 Yellow Submarine. Il remake di “Sorrow” di David Bowie, registrato nel luglio 1973 a Château d’Hérouville, Hérouville, Francia, è stato l’unico singolo pubblicato nel Regno Unito dal suo album di cover Pin Ups, raggiungendo il n. 3 nella UK Singles Chart e rimanendo in classifica per 15 settimane.  Fu anche il primo singolo di Bowie ad arrivare al N.1 in Australia, dove fu in cima alle classifiche per due settimane nel febbraio 1974.

 

“Sorrow” is a song first recorded by the McCoys in 1965 and released as the B-side to their cover of “Fever“. It became a big hit in the United Kingdom in a version by the Merseys, reaching number 4 on the UK chart on 28 April 1966. A line from the song – “With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue” – is used in the Beatles song “It’s All Too Much” which was featured on their 1969 album Yellow Submarine. David Bowie’s remake of “Sorrow”, recorded in July 1973 at Château d’Hérouville, Hérouville, France, was the only single released in the UK from his Pin Ups covers album, reaching No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, and staying in the charts for 15 weeks. It was also Bowie’s first number one hit single in Australia, where it topped the charts for two weeks in February 1974.

“You and I”, un disco postumo con dieci brani inediti di Jeff Buckley, è uscito l’11 marzo del 2016. “I Know it’s Over” è una delle due cover degli Smiths dell’album “The Queen is Dead” che appare su “You and I” insieme a “The Boy With The Thorn in His Side”.

“You and I”, a posthumous compilation featuring 10 unreleased Jeff Buckley recordings, was released on March 11th, 2016. “I Know It’s Over” is one of two Smiths covers from “The Queen Is Dead” that appear on “You and I” along with “The Boy With the Thorn in His Side.”

Canadians – Moonlight Shadow (Mike Oldfield)

Tra le primissime band a portare la musica indie italiana a un pubblico più ampio, i Canadians si sono fatti conoscere a metà degli anni 2000 grazie alle melodie immediate e ai muri di chitarre. “Moonlight Shadow” è un brano scritto dal polistrumentista inglese Mike Oldfield, pubblicato come singolo nel 1983 ed incluso nell’abum “Crises”nello stesso anno. La parte vocale era interpretata dalla cantante scozzese Maggie Reilly, che aveva collaborato con Oldfield fin dal 1980. E’ stato il maggior successo dell’artista inglese avendo raggiunto la posizione N.1 in diverse classifiche europee.

Among the very first bands to bring Italian indie music to a wider audience the Canadians made themselves known in the mid-2000s by immediate melodies and guitars sound walls. “Moonlight Shadow” is a song written and performed by English multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield, released as a single in May 1983 and included in the album “Crises” of the same year. The vocals were performed by Scottish vocalist Maggie Reilly, who had collaborated with Mike Oldfield since 1980. It is Oldfield’s most successful single, reaching number one on a lot of charts around Europe.

 

Baustelle – Eyes Without A Face (Billy Idol)

La band italiana Baustelle ha realizzato lo scorso anno questa cover di “Eyes without a face” di Billy Idol, brano contenuto nell’album del 1983 “Rebel Yell”.  Registrato con un Mimimoog, un sintetizzatore Prophet 5, una batteria elettronica e una chitarra elettrica sul tema della colonna sonora di Stranger Things.

The italian band Baustelle has realized last year this over of Billy Idol’s “Eyes without a face”, from the album “Rebel Yell”, 1983. Recorded with a Minimoog, a Prophet 5 synth, a drum machine and an electric guitar, + Stranger Things’ opening theme.

Life’s What You Make It è una canzone del 1986 scritta da Mark Hollis e da Tim Friese-Greene ed inserita nel terzo album dei Talk Talk “The Colour of Spring”. Nel 2016 i Placebo ne hanno fatto una cover contenuta nell’EP omonimo, pubblicato il 7 ottobre. Un video musicale, diretto da Sasha Rainbow, è stato rilasciato nel giugno 2017. È stato girato ad Agbogbloshie ad Accra, in Ghana, il sito di una delle più grandi discariche di rifiuti elettronici del mondo.

Life’s What You Make It is a 1986 song written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene and included in Talk Talk’s third album “The Color of Spring”. In 2016 Placebo have made a cover contained in the EP of the same name, published on october 7th. A music video, directed by Sasha Rainbow, was released in June 2017. It was filmed at Agbogbloshie in Accra, Ghana, the site of one of the world’s largest electronic waste dumps.

I White Magic sono un gruppo folk rock psichedelico formatosi a Brooklyn, New York, e guidato dalla cantante/chitarrista/pianista/compositrice Mira Bilotte. Nel 2007 la Bilotte registrò il brano di Bob Dylan “As I Went Out One Morning” per la colonna sonora del film di Todd Haynes “I’m Not There”

White Magic is a psychedelic folk rock group formed in Brooklyn, New York City, and led by singer/guitarist/pianist/composer Mira Billotte. In 2007, Billotte recorded Bob Dylan’s “As I Went Out One Morning” on the soundtrack album for the Todd Haynes film “I’m Not There”

Mina – Tre volte dentro me – Dentro Marylin (Afterhours)

Dentro Marilyn è una canzone degli Afterhours contenuta prima nell’album in inglese “During Christine’s Sleep” con il titolo “Inside Marilyn three times” e poi in italiano nell’album “Germi” (1995). La canzone è stata poi reinterpretata da Mina con il titolo “Tre volte dentro me” nell’album “Leggera” del 1997. Ne esistono versioni live cantate dagli Afterhours assieme a Cristina Donà e ai Marlene Kuntz.

“Dentro Marilyn” is a song by Afterhours included the first time in the album in English “During Christine’s Sleep” under the title “Inside Marilyn three times” and then in the album in Italian “Germi”(1995). Janis Joplin – Me & Bobby McGee (Kris Kristofferson)

“Me and Bobby McGee” è un brano scritto da Kris Kristofferson e Fred Foster, eseguito per la prima volta da Roger Miller. Altrei artisti hanno interpretato il brano, tra cui i Grateful Dead, lo stesso Kristofferson ma soprattutto Janis Joplin, la cui versione postuma raggiunse la vetta della classifica statunitense nel 1971, facendola diventare la seconda canzone postuma ad aver raggiunto la vetta della classifica americana dopo “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” di Otis Redding. La Joplin registrò il brano per l’album “Pearl” solo pochi giorni prima della sua morte avvenuta il 4 ottobre del 1970. La cantautrice italiana Gianna Nannini incise la versione italiana del brano (Io e Bobby McGee) nell’album “California” nel 1979
