“20th Century Boy” è una canzone di T. Rex, scritta da Marc Bolan. È stata pubblicata come singolo nel 1973 e ha raggiunto il n. 3 nella UK Singles Chart. La canzone non era inclusa in un album originale in studio ma come bonus track su una ristampa dell’album Tanx del 1973.
In seguito il brano è tornato nella Top 20 del Regno Unito nel 1991, raggiungendo il picco al numero 13, quattordici anni dopo la morte di Bolan, quando è stato utilizzato in uno spot diretto da Chris Hartwill per Levi’s con protagonista Brad Pitt.
Questo duetto è stato realizzato ai BRIT AWARDS nel 1999. I Placebo avevano già pubblicato una cover di questa canzone che era stata inserita nella colonna sonora del film “Velvet Goldmine”

The song was not featured on an original studio album but was included as a bonus track on a reissue of 1973 album Tanx. It later returned to the UK Top 20 in 1991, peaking at No. 13, fourteen years after Bolan’s death, when it was used in a Chris Hartwill-directed commercial for Levi’s starring Brad Pitt. This duet was made at BRIT AWARDS in 1999. The placebo had already published a cover of this song which was featured in the soundtrack of film “Velvet Goldmine”

“Sorrow” è un brano registrato per la prima volta dai McCoys nel 1965 e pubblicato come lato B nella loro cover di “Fever”. È diventato un grande successo nel Regno Unito in una versione dei Merseys, raggiungendo il numero 4 nella classifica del Regno Unito il 28 aprile 1966. Una frase della canzone – “Con i tuoi lunghi capelli biondi e i tuoi occhi di blu” – è usata nel brano dei Beatles “It’s All Too Much” che è stata inserito nel loro album del 1969 Yellow Submarine. Il remake di “Sorrow” di David Bowie, registrato nel luglio 1973 a Château d’Hérouville, Hérouville, Francia, è stato l’unico singolo pubblicato nel Regno Unito dal suo album di cover Pin Ups, raggiungendo il n. 3 nella UK Singles Chart e rimanendo in classifica per 15 settimane.  Fu anche il primo singolo di Bowie ad arrivare al N.1 in Australia, dove fu in cima alle classifiche per due settimane nel febbraio 1974.

 

“Sorrow” is a song first recorded by the McCoys in 1965 and released as the B-side to their cover of “Fever“. It became a big hit in the United Kingdom in a version by the Merseys, reaching number 4 on the UK chart on 28 April 1966. A line from the song – “With your long blonde hair and your eyes of blue” – is used in the Beatles song “It’s All Too Much” which was featured on their 1969 album Yellow Submarine. David Bowie’s remake of “Sorrow”, recorded in July 1973 at Château d’Hérouville, Hérouville, France, was the only single released in the UK from his Pin Ups covers album, reaching No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart, and staying in the charts for 15 weeks. It was also Bowie’s first number one hit single in Australia, where it topped the charts for two weeks in February 1974.

Michael “Mick” Ronson è stato un chitarrista, cantautore, polistrumentista, arrangiatore e produttore inglese. Egli è conosciuto soprattutto per il suo lavoro con David Bowie, come uno degli “Spiders from Mars”. Ronson era un session-man molto attivo che ha registrato con artisti molto diversi tra loro come Elton John e Morrissey, così come ha supportato in tour performer come Van Morrison e Bob Dylan. Ronson ha co-prodotto insieme a Bowie l’album “Transformer” di Lou Reed, suonando chitarra e pianoforte sulla canzone “Perfect Day” e componendo l’arrangiamento d’archi di “Perfect Day” e “Satellite of Love”. Ha anche inciso diversi album da solista, dei quali il più notevole è stato il primo, Slaughter on 10th Avenue (1974), che ha raggiunto la posizione n ° 9 della classifica inglese degli album più venduti e che contiene questa cover del brano del cantante italiano Lucio Battisti “Io vorrei .. non vorrei .. ma, se vuoi”, tradotto in inglese da David Bowie

Michael “Mick” Ronson was an English guitarist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and producer. He is best known for his work with David Bowie, as one of the “Spiders from Mars”. Ronson was a busy session musician  who recorded with artists as diverse as Elton John and Morrissey, as well as appearing as a sideman in touring bands with performers such as Van Morrison and Bob Dylan.  Ronson co-produced Lou Reed’s album “Transformer” with Bowie, playing lead guitar and piano on the song “Perfect Day” and composing the arrangements of strings of “Perfect Day” and “Satellite of Love”. He also recorded several solo albums, the most notable example of which was the first, Slaughter on 10th Avenue (1974), which reached No. 9 on the UK Album Chart and that contains this cover of the song of Italian singer Lucio Battisti “Io vorrei.. non vorrei.. ma, se vuoi” translated into English by David Bowie

“Let’s Spend The Night Together” è un brano scritto da Mick Jagger e Keith Richard e originariamente inciso dai Rolling Stones come doppio sngolo insieme a “Ruby Tuesday” nel 1967. Lo troviamo anche come traccia di apertura nella versione americana dell’album “Between The Buttons”. Bowie registrò questa versione in stile glam-rock per il suo album “Alladin Sane” nel 1973. Il brano uscì anche come singolo in USA e in Europa. Qualche giornalista musicale considerò che Bowie aveva realizzato l’impresa senza precedenti di battere gli Stones con una delle loro canzoni

“All The Young Dude” è una canzone scritta da David Bowie e registrata per la prima volta dai Mott The Hoople a luglio del 1972. Il singolo raggiunse la posizione N.3 nella classifica britannica e fece parte dell’album omonimo a settembre di quell’anno. Bowie iniziò a interpretare “All The Young Dudes” durante il Tour del 1973, e una versione medley appare sull’album “Ziggy Stardust – The Motion Picture”. L’artista inglese incluse la propria versione in studio (mono) su “The Best of David Bowie 1969/1974”, l’edizione del 30° anniversario dell’album “Aladdin Sane”, e sul secondo disco della versione statunitense del “Best of Bowie” 

“All The Young Dude”is a song written by David Bowie, originally recorded and released as a single by Mott The Hoople in July 1972. The single made No. 3 in the UK charts and appeared on their album of the same name in September of that year. Bowie took to performing “All the Young Dudes” on his own 1973 tour, and a medley version appears on the album “Ziggy Stardust – The Motion Picture”. Bowie’s own studio version was subsequently included, in mono, on “The Best of David Bowie 1969/1974”,  the 30th Anniversary edition of “Aladdin Sane”, and the 2-disc US version of “Best of Bowie”

Questa cover è inclusa nella scaletta di “Live in Concert”, un album e DVD del 1999 di Natalie Merchant, ex cantante principale della rock-band alternative “10000 Maniacs”. L’album fu registrato al Neil Simon Theatre di New York. Space Oddity detiene il record di brano più venduto di Bowie nel Regno Unito

Appartenente all’ EP dei Dinosaur Jr  “Whatever’s Cool With Me”, Quicksand rappresenta il classico caso di brano il cui successo è attribuibile in egual modo alla band autrice della cover e all’autore, che la pubblicò come lato B del singolo “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” nel 1974. La band statunitense ha apportato numerose modifiche rispetto al testo originale
