Sixto Diaz Rodriguez (conosciuto anche come Rodriguez o Jesus Rodriguez: nato il 10 luglio 1942) è un musicista folk americano di Detroit. La sua carriera si rivelò inizialmente di breve durata, con due album poco venduti ad inizio anni settanta e due tour australiani. A sua insaputa, però, il suo lavoro ebbe enorme successo e influenza in Sud Africa, facendolo diventare più famoso di Elvis Presley, sebbene si credesse erroneamente che si fosse suicidato. Negli anni 90 alcuni fan sudafricani si misero sulle sue tracce e lo contattarono, permettendogli un’ insperata rinascita della sua carriera musicale. La loro storia è descritta nel documentario vincitore dell’Oscar del 2012, Searching for Sugar Man, che ha aiutato a dare a Rodriguez una meritata notorietà anche negli Stati Uniti

Sixto Diaz Rodriguez (also known just as Rodríguez or as Jesús Rodríguez; born July 10, 1942) is an American folk musician based in Detroit, Michigan. His career initially proved short lived, with two little-sold albums in the early 1970s and two Australian concert tours. Unbeknownst to him, however, his work became extremely successful and influential in South Africa, making him more famous than Elvis Presley, although he was mistakenly rumored in that country to have committed suicide.
In the 1990s, determined South African fans managed to seek out and contact him, which led to an unexpected revival of his musical career. Their story is told in the 2012 Academy Award–winning documentary film, Searching for Sugar Man, which has also helped give Rodriguez a deserved fame in his native country.

Il brano è stato registrato più di 250 volte, ed è uno dei più famosi nella storia del rock and roll. “Love Me Two Times” è stata reinterpretata dagli Aerosmith nel 1990 per la colonna sonora del film “Air America” e fu anche suonata dalla band quello stesso anno in questa versione Unplugged, dove il cantante Steven Tyler dedicò il brano a Jim Morrison, che aveva interpretato il brano diversi anni prima nello stesso luogo, l’Ed Sullivan Theater. Nel 2001 la canzone fu inclusa nel loro album di grandi successi “Young Lust: The Aerosmith Antology”. Inoltre la loro versione fece parte anche dell’album-tributo ai Doors “Stoned Immaculate”

“Love Me Two Times” was covered by Aerosmith for the soundtrack of the 1990 film “Air America” and was also played at this band’s MTV Unplugged performance that same year, where lead singer Steven Tyler dedicated the song to Jim Morrison, who performed with the Doors at the same venue of the Unplugged performance, the Ed Sullivan Theater, several years prior. In 2001, the song was included on their greatest hits album, “Young Lust: The Aerosmith Antology”.
