Marian Evelyn (Marianne) Faithfull è una cantante e attrice britannica protagonista, insieme a Mick Jagger (di cui fu compagna), degli anni brillanti della Swinging London e autrice insieme ai membri dei Rolling Stones di successi indimenticabili come appunto questa “As Tears Go By”. Il brano è stato interpretato inizialmente dalla cantante nel 1964 e successivamente nel 1965 dagli stessi Stones. È stata una delle prime composizioni originali dei Rolling Stones, che fino ad allora avevano interpretato soprattutto cover. Johnny Marr è divenuto famoso negli anni ottanta come chitarrista degli Smiths, gruppo nell’ambito del quale ha creato insieme al cantante Morrissey uno stile musicale in grado di fare scuola.
