Non è casuale che abbia postato su questo blog due cover consecutive dello stesso brano da parte di artisti diversi: è la testimonianza di come mondi musicali differenti tra loro possano convergere offrendo interpretazioni di alta qualità pur con stili diversi; la versione dei Keane era molto fedele all’originale mentre questa cover del cantautore australiano stravolge ritmo e arrangiamento, entrando anche nella grazie dei Pulp che l’hanno inserita come B-side di un loro singolo nel 2001

It is not casual that have posted on this blog two consecutive covers of the same song by different artists: it is the demonstration of how different musical worlds  may converge offering interpretations of high quality even with different styles; the version of Keane was very similar to the original while this cover of  the Australian songwriter upsets the rhythm and arrangement, obtaining the approval of Pulp who have included it as a B-side of their single in 2001

Il brano originale è tratto da “Different Class”, album del 1995 che immortalò i Pulp come elemento fondamentale del “britpop”, nonostante la band di Sheffield fosse in attività già da una quindicina di anni. In particolare i due singoli dell’album, Common People (che raggiunse la posizione numero 2 nella classifica inglese) e appunto Disco 2000 (che arrivò al settimo posto), portarono la band al successo. Proprio in quell’anno nascevano i “Lotus Eaters”, primo embrione dei Keane, i quali subirono fortemente l’influenza del gruppo di Jarvis Cocker essendo inizialmente una cover-band di gruppi britannici

The original song is taken from “Different Class” (1995), album with which the pulps became a fundamental element of the “Britpop”, although the band from Sheffield was already in activity for fifteen years. In particular, the two singles of the album, Common People (which reached number 2 in the UK charts) and this Disco 2000 (which reached the seventh place), take the band to success. Precisely in 1995 were born the “Lotus Eaters”, the first embryo of Keane, who were influenzed by the band of Jarvis Cocker being initially a cover band
